Overview of class
In this class, we will study the fundamentals of writing for animation. Through reading assignments, viewing coursework, and written exercises we will explore ways to write for animation suited to a variety of interests, tastes, and aesthetics. We will study examples from TV of the past and present and use these as the tools to create our own unique teleplays.
Learning Objectives
Over the course of the quarter each student will be expected to draft a treatment, episode outline, and write an original TV pilot script written for animation, which totals 30 pages in length.
Teaching Method
There will be weekly assignments, which will include writing, reading, and viewing.
Class Materials (Required)
- Access to Netflix, Hulu, HBOMax
- Additional readings and viewings available on reserve and online via CANVAS
Internet access, NU email account, word processing program, and Xeroxing of materials required for writing workshop and class discussion
