Overview of class
This course focuses on the legal and ethical issues that arise in higher education. Federal, state and local laws that apply to public and/or private higher education institutions and their interplay with risk management serve as the overall framework. Specific areas of study include duty of care, torts and negligence; sexual misconduct; crime, safety and policing on campus; free speech, assembly and association; inclusion diversity and equal protection; health and wellness (drugs, alcohol, hazing and discipline); international students and scholars (visas / immigration); and education abroad. This course will also include opportunities to address the impact of COVID-19 as related to these subjects.
