Registration Requirements

Graduate clarinet students are eligible to register fir this course

Learning Objectives

Student will learn standard orchestral repertoire that isn't currently being performed in the University ensembles.
The student will also learn the standard orchestral excerpts required for audition by professional orchestras.

Teaching Method

Instructional design is dependent on the numbers of clarinetists enrolled. Typically a full orchestral clarinet section of players will be assembled to perform various excerpts from the repertoire. Bass Clatinet and Eflat clarinet parts will be assigned in addition to the usual A/Bflat parts.

Primarily, students will have the opportunity to discover the "role" of section positions, principal positions and auxiliary solo/ensemble parts in the orchestral clarinet section.

Parts will typically be assigned a week or two in advance of the class. Students are expected to come prepared and to have fully practiced the repertoire assigned to them prior to the class "run-through ."

Also, their will be orchestral mock auditions of standard orchestral excerpts that the students will be expected to prepare for with ample notice.

Evaluation Method

Each student will be evaluated by class preparation and performance of the repertoire.

Class Materials (Required)

Standard orchestral repertoire can be found through the NU orchestral library or through the clarinet studio library.
Any other works that are not easily accessible will be provided by Profesor Williamson.

Class Materials (Suggested)

Depending on the part/parts assigned to each student, Bflat/ A clarinets, Eflat and Bass Clarinets may be required. All Students are expected to own their own set of Bflat/A clarinets which are required for every orchestral clarinetist.
Auxiliary instruments: Eflat, Bass clarinet, Bassethorn can be loaned to the student through the University Faculty Support Center.
