Overview of class

The Magazine Writing Lab will give you a hands-on introduction to magazine writing and basic editing and story packaging. You will learn how magazine writers and editors pitch, assign, write, edit and publish stories in different formats for publications in a print/digital/social world. You will also learn about the building blocks of magazines—audience, voice, story structure, editorial judgment. You will pitch, report and write magazine-style pieces that are worthy of publication, either on the Medill Reports website or at an outside publication.
