Overview of class
What does it mean to be a citizen? How did the urban development and sprawl shaped Latin American communities? In this course, we will draw from 20th Century and contemporary Latin American literature and visual culture to address some of the challenges faced by Latin American urban experience. We are going to reflect on issues around citizenship, marginality, diversity, violence, and the tensions between urban and rural landscapes throughout Latin American processes of modernization.
