Overview of class
Throughout history the famous scientists, the most recognized scholars, and university and national laboratory leaders have been largely white and asian males, excluding many minoritized groups. This continues today, enshrined by sociological and structural policies and processes. We will explore this history of oppression and examine current efforts to create more inclusive science and engineering environments. This seminar posits that to study in a discipline and be an inclusive practitioner requires both an understanding of that discipline's sociological origins as well as skills in its constituent elements (e.g. math, physics, etc.).
