Overview of class
The topics covered will include a subset of: techniques for the solution of differential equations; approximations such as the method of steepest descent; techniques for integration; complex analysis; the special functions of mathematical physics; usage of Greens functions and eigenfunctions to solve differential equations; introduction to groups and group representations.
Registration Requirements
You should know the basic mathematical techniques used in undergraduate physics classes: vector calculus, methods for the solution of ordinary and partial differential equations, linear algebra and basic complex variables. Brief reviews of these topics will be given as they are needed during the course.
Evaluation Method
Grades will be based on weekly homework assignments, a midterm exam, and a final exam.
