Overview of class

This course is designed to prepare prospective music educators with the skills to model and work effectively with students on the flute, clarinet, and saxophone in beginning to advanced level instrumental music classes. This class will address concepts to teach musicianship and performance skills with these instruments in small group lesson and large ensemble learning settings.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, you should be able to:
* Perform on the flute, clarinet, and saxophone at an intermediate level;
* Demonstrate sequenced, varied, and differentiated approaches for teaching woodwinds;
* Collect and organize resources about woodwind teaching, solo and ensemble repertoire, and instrument repair;
* Identify the ranges, basic fingerings, transpositions, and teaching/playing techniques for the flute, clarinet, and saxophone.

School-owned instruments will be provided for students to use during the course. Students will supply their own reeds for the clarinet and saxophone.
