Overview of class
This course is intended to communicate the vocabulary and elements of Western common-practice tonal music and its place in the broader cultural milieu. Contextualized through engagement with historical and contemporary Western and non-Western music and thought, the class will explore musical concepts such as rhythm, sound, and melodic construction in their relation to harmony, with the goal of developing an understanding that will enrich student's musical experiences. This class is intended for non-music majors and music minors.
