Overview of class
This course will aim to help students develop the skills and tools required to understand and study music's role in our world today and in history, across multiple geographies, and through a variety of genres, styles, and mediums, including both popular music and Western art music. Focusing on its various social, political, and cultural impacts, we will explore the relationship that we, as individuals and as a society, have with music. Assignments will range from listening journals and quizzes to concert attendance, along with one final short paper.
