Overview of class
The purpose of HDPS-340-0 is to familiarize students with the opportunities and challenges of intimate relationships including marriage. This course will increase students' formal knowledge about intimate relationships, while also improving their chances for success by helping students develop relational self-awareness. Course includes lecture and breakout sessions with material that covers a range of topics including dating, conflict, sex, and partnering across cultural difference. Assignments include outside exercises, a self-reflection journal, and interviews with a "mentor couple" and with members of the student's family. There are three quizzes which cover lectures and readings. After taking the course, students are better prepared to choose compatible partners, to navigate inevitable relationship challenges, and to experience greater relationship satisfaction.
